Who We Are

The Prince George Home Educators' Association (PGHEA) is a
non-denominational, non-profit, Christian group.

It was created by home educating families to enhance, inspire, encourage, support, and aid all home educators in our community.

We believe that the home environment is a viable alternative in education.

We also believe it is our inalienable right as parents to choose this course of instruction for our children.

PGHEA is a support group for any home educator in Prince George who feels the need to network and dialogue with other home educators from our area. We do not offer any kind of curriculum or educational program, but we do offer encouragement and like-mindedness for those who have chosen this model of education for their children.

If you're new to home education, PGHEA would like to help you begin your first steps on this great adventure. We have put together a Home Educators' Launch Packet (H.E.L.P.) for all first- or second-year home educators. This is available to new members who are new homeschoolers when they register with PGHEA. (If you do not wish to register, you may purchase a copy for $3.00, which merely covers the cost of production.) The information in this packet includes a checklist for beginning your home education journey, help for creating a mission statement for your home school, a look at a day in the life of some of our local home educators, on-line and book resource lists, BC homeschool regulations, frequently asked questions, and more.

We have a good Members' Reference Library which members can take advantage of by borrowing good homeschool reference books between meeting dates.

We hold monthly support meetings which any home educator in our area can take advantage of - you do not have to be a member to attend these evenings. These coffee nights are our primary source of support. Besides having a lot of fun and getting a nice "night out", we learn a lot from each other and encourage each other in our home education endeavours. If you would like to attend the next meeting, please e-mail our contact person for the dates and location.

You can get information about any events or learning activities planned by visiting our announcement page (link to the left) and contacting the person coordinating the activity in which you are interested. If you have a field trip or other event planned, you can get the information to us (from that page) and we will post it for others to see.

We wish you all of God's blessings as your family embarks upon or continues in this great opportunity called "home education"!
